Changing the Battery in Your Mazda 3 Key Fob
There's nothing more annoying than returning to your car after a long and tiring day and discovering that the key fob battery is dead. Luckily, this is an easy fix by purchasing an easy battery replacement at the hardware store or big box retailer.
A spare key fob for your Mazda 3 is an inexpensive method to avoid having to take it to a dealer to have them re-program the keys.
Battery Replacement
You can change the battery on your Mazda 3 keyfob at home. But, it is best to replace the battery when it dies, or if the key fob displays a message in the multi-information display that reads, "Low key fob battery. Replace battery."
To open the key fob's casing, you'll need a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver, along with some patience. The flathead screwdriver's head into a notch, or gap on the bottom of the metal of the Mazda 3 key fob to cut off the lower half. Repeat this process for the top part of the metal Be careful not to scratch the rubber ring at bottom of the key fob's case.
Once the fob's case is opened, you'll notice a slot on either side of the case that houses the battery. Use the tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver to gently pry the case open, starting on one side and then moving to the next. Remove the old battery and put in a new CR2025, making sure that it's facing up to ensure proper orientation. Put the cap of the battery on again and secure both sides of your key fob case by pressing until they click.
After replacing the battery after replacing the battery, lock and unlock your doors to ensure that the fob is working. If everything looks good then you're able to use your Mazda 3's remote capabilities on the road again!
Pairing Issues
If your key fob stopped working suddenly it could be a sign that the transmitter in the car has been damaged. It is usually a job for a professional, and you will require a brand new key fob.
If you have tried replacing the battery and reprogramming the key fob, but it has not solved the problem it is possible that the chip inside the key fob may be faulty. This can happen if your keyfob was dropped, exposed to saltwater, or touched by dirty fingers.

There is nothing more frustrating than gazing at the "No Fob Detected" message when trying to start your vehicle. This usually occurs at the most difficult time, such as when you're late for work or if you're picking up kids from school/daycare. The good news is that there are a few steps you can take to pinpoint the issue and determine what is causing it.
Interference signals can interfere with the remote key fob signal from the vehicle and cause it to not function correctly. This could be caused by things such as weather conditions, buildings, and transmitters that operate on the same frequency. Interference can occur when your vehicle is equipped with aftermarket equipment that transmits at the same frequency as your key fob.
In addition, if the key fob is exposed to salt or water waters, it could be damaged. The rubber seals on the electronic chip may be damaged by water, particularly when it is submerged for long periods of time, like in a swimming pool or at the beach. This can cause the chip to cease working and require replacement of the key fob. If you have a programmeable key cleaning the chip with isopropyl Alcohol or an electronic cleaner to aid in its return to functionality. If this does not work the chip, it's likely to be damaged and will need to be replaced.
Locking and Unlocking of Doors
The key fob's buttons send electronic signals to a solenoid in the car, which converts the signal into a mechanical action that locks and unlocks doors. If the door lock isn't working it could be due to an issue with the solenoid. This will require professional repair shops to analyze.
A dead 12 volt battery could also hinder the fob from working properly. This can occur if your battery is not charged or if your contacts get corroded. This issue can be resolved in just a few minutes by purchasing a new battery.
If the key fob isn't functioning after you replace the battery or try to program it again the problem could be in the receiver module. The device interprets radio frequency signals sent by the key fob to control the vehicle. It can be a costly repair if it is damaged.
To determine if this is correct, place your spare key into the key slot. Then, turn the ignition on. Press the key fob button twice in a matter of 10 seconds without removing it. The Mazda 3 system will now sync the key to the car and you can use it as your primary remote for driving. This allows you to program up to three keys.
